Should we be cheering or … fearing?
Meagan Furgal, Grade 8, St. Bernadette
No more recess. Much more homework, yet more freedom. But much bigger consequences. Is this something to look forward to or something to fear? Next year, everything will change for us. And it is all because of two short words: HIGH SCHOOL.
It will be just like kindergarten again. Only this time we are taller and, hopefully, a lot smarter. In high school, there is so much more to do. There is student council as well as many more clubs and sports teams than we have now. These offer exciting possibilities. There are also new teachers and lots of new students with whom to make friends. Students from St. Mary CSS have visited us to share that high school isn’t scary at all. They’ve been through it, right? So we CAN trust them.
Yet, I am still afraid! Homework …getting lost and …EXAMS! I don’t even want to think about them! My sister says that Grade 9 exams are a joke. Well, for her maybe!
I am really excited about going to high school, but also I am scared. I don’t want to leave all I know behind. Yet, I know that I will figure it all out.
